So I am still here in the Sandy, YSA stake! Woohoo!
The only down side is that the side the elders took had our 3
investigators and all the Less actives we were teaching. It's like we
are white washing, because the side the elders are on included all of
lessons we were teaching that kept us pretty busy. This side we didn't do as much
work in the last transfer. So we are in the finding mode. There are lots of
people to teach here. It's just reminding them that they need the gospel
is the hard part. My mission president describes my area very well. He
said, "Sisters, you have sheep who don't like fences." And he is so
right! After transfer calls its been a week of knocking on doors,
visiting bishops and lighting the missionary fire with the members. We
did find a less active that wants to take the lessons so that was pretty
great. And then we asked him what we could help him with and he said
that he needed help finding a date for this weekend. We told him that we
would keep our eye out.(#ysaproblems) Other than that, it's been a lot
different than last transfer. In a way that we need to get others
excited about missionary work. So our goal is to just teach, because I
believe that if we are teaching and inviting even active members to
change, that the Lord will put someone in our path who is ready for the
gospel and as we invite everyone to better their lives they'll want to
share this happiness with others.
So this morning in my personal study I was reading in Mosiah. And I came across chapter 2:41.
" 41 And moreover, I would des ire that ye should consider on the blessed and happy state o f those that keep the commandm ents of God. For behold, they are blessed in all things, bot h temporal and spiritual; and if they hold out faithful to t he end they are received into heaven, that thereby they may dwell with God in a state of n ever-ending happiness. O remem ber, remember that these thing s are true; for the Lord God h ath spoken it."
In my last area there was a recent convert and we
were teaching her the commandments and she said something interesting.
She said, "Have you ever met anyone who was unhappy because they were
living the 10 commandments?" ....No. We are naturally happier when we
are keeping the commandments of the Lord. I was teaching a girl who for a
week didn't read her scriptures or pray and she came back and told us
that she was angry and annoyed and she just had a bad week. Then when
she started reading and praying, she was happy again.
I just love how King Benjamin puts it. Think about
those who keep the commandments, are they happy? Yes, there are people
who keep the commandments who aren't happy, but thats because they don't
understand the blessings that come even after this life! So remember,
that this is true and continue to build your testimonies!
Love,
Sister Swain
